How to Host a Micro-Wedding in a Williamsburg Loft
Some of my favorite days at Bat Haus have been the smallest ones. There's a particular kind of magic to a micro-wedding — 30 or 40 of the people you love most, in one warm room, with no stage and no distance between you and them. After 14 years and more than 2,000 events in this Williamsburg space, I've come to think the intimate weddings are the ones people remember most clearly. Here's how I'd help you plan one.
Why a loft works better than a ballroom for a small wedding
A big venue can swallow a small guest list. Forty people in a 200-seat ballroom feels sparse, and everyone senses it. Our space at 459 Grand Street holds up to 50 guests, so a micro-wedding fills it beautifully — close enough that your aunt can hear your vows from the back, open enough that no one feels packed in.
The natural light does a lot of the work. Because the loft is bright and clean-lined, you're not fighting the room or paying to cover it up. I've watched couples spend almost nothing on décor and still have a setting that photographs like a magazine, simply because the bones of the space are good.
What's already handled (so you can plan less)
The part couples are most surprised by is how much is included in a 5-hour rental. Tables, chairs, lighting, sound, and styling come with the room, and so do setup and cleanup. For a wedding, that last detail matters enormously — neither you nor your family should be breaking down a single table on the most emotional night of your year.
Rentals run $1,350–$1,850 depending on the day and season. Because we're steps from the L train, your guests coming from Manhattan or elsewhere in Brooklyn arrive easily, which keeps a small list intact — no one bails because of parking.
Food, your way
We're a bring-your-own-food space, which couples planning a micro-wedding tend to love. You're not boxed into a banquet menu or a per-plate minimum. You can bring in the caterer whose food actually means something to you — your family's cuisine, a favorite neighborhood restaurant, a beloved bakery for the cake. Campbell and Co, Williamsburg on Lorimer Street, for example, has been our wedding couples favorite place to order food from.
This flexibility is also what makes the space so welcoming to every kind of celebration. We're an immigrant-woman-founded venue, and we host all cultures and traditions, including Nikah ceremonies. Your wedding should look like you, not like a template.
A simple flow for the day
For a micro-wedding I usually suggest a gentle arc: guests arrive and settle, a short ceremony in the brightest part of the room, then the space turns over to a relaxed dinner and dancing. With five hours, there's no rushing.
