Corporate Lamp-Making Workshop in Brooklyn | Team Building

If your team's last offsite was a slideshow followed by a happy hour, you're not alone — and there's a better way. At Bat Haus, we've watched dozens of teams walk into our Williamsburg space a little skeptical about "craft time" and walk out carrying lamps they made themselves, comparing designs, and genuinely talking to each other. That shift is exactly why lamp-making has become one of our most requested corporate team bonding activities in Brooklyn.

What happens at a corporate lamp-making workshop?

At a corporate lamp-making workshop, each person builds and paints their own lamp from scratch, guided step by step by our host — no experience needed. We supply all materials, tools, and guidance, and your team supplies the personality. Some people go minimalist, some go maximalist, and the reveal at the end (everyone's lamp lit up side by side) is reliably the best photo moment of the day.

Because everyone works on their own piece while sitting elbow-to-elbow, the format naturally creates conversation without forcing it. There's no trust fall, no icebreaker script — just people making something with their hands while the work talk fades out. Teams tell us the quieter members of the group often shine in a setting like this, which is something a bowling night never quite achieves.

How much does team building cost in NYC?

Most NYC craft-based team building workshops run $99–$179 per person, and many charge extra for the venue and a dedicated host. Our private corporate lamp-making workshops are $105 per person with a 10-person minimum, and that price includes the materials, the host, and our Williamsburg space — the parts other providers bill separately. Groups of 6 to 50 fit comfortably, so it works for a small pod or the whole department.

If leaving the office isn't in the cards, our mobile workshop comes to you: we bring everything to offices across Brooklyn and Manhattan at $125 per person (15-person minimum), with setup and cleanup included. Your team just shows up to the conference room and finds it transformed.

Why hands-on beats another happy hour

Activity-based offsites consistently outperform passive ones because they give people something to do together rather than something to sit through. A lamp is also a keepsake with a long tail: every time someone flips it on at their desk or at home, they're reminded of the day — and of the company that planned something thoughtful. We wrote more about this shift in our piece on why NYC teams are choosing calm, creative offsites over traditional team building.

Booking your summer or fall offsite

July and August are ideal for a mid-year reset, and fall offsite dates in Brooklyn go quickly once Q3 planning kicks in — most teams book 4–6 weeks out. Since 2012, Bat Haus has hosted teams at 459 Grand Street in Williamsburg, a short trip from Manhattan on the L or J/M, and we can pair your workshop with a longer offsite agenda in the space if you want to make a full day of it.
